WELCOME to chapter one
I am learning a new profession within the Masters of Library and Information Science program. This is one of my lifelong learning adventures of growth. Growing like the new plant seed in the ground and waiting with anticipation of it sprouting and when it does, how exciting. I feel the same way about learning I get so excited and I hope to never lose this enthusiasm.
Libraries and books have always fascinated me. There is something about walking into a library with access to all that information, quietly awaiting for you to discover. Since I am the adventurer type, I wanted to discover every book possible that I could find no matter what the subject. My first adventure was using the card catalog and all those little boxes filled with index cards. Did you ever think about the person who had to type all that information on those cards? I did because that is how my brain works, I am always thinking about the details of something or somewhere. My nature is inquisitive and I am not sure where this came from but I have enjoyed my life thus far and foresee it never stopping.
My reason for choosing the MLIS program, is my strong passion in lifelong learning, service to others and a belief in higher education. Also while a library was a saving grace for myself while raising my daughter, after her father had abandoned us, this physical place gave us hope and knowledge and allowed me to encourage reading each and everyday. To this day my daughter has grown within the library walls and is a director of a library. Libraries are specially important to me and how they do transform lives. I hope there will be a place for me upon completion of this program because I have learned so much this far and it is just the beginning. Who knows where the final chapter will take me, I can only hope and pray for a great ending.
