LIS620 LIS636 LIS655 These 3 classes allowed me to design information for users and communities. As I reflect on them my passion is technology and when designing I get to be so creative and to view the final product is so rewarding to me.
In LIS620 I created a LigGuide on Grant Funding In LIS636 I created a website on Literacy & Storytime in a library setting. In LIS655 I created a program for older adults with the new coloring fad. Titled it Color & Chat and it was a walk-in session. All of these creations were so fun and invigorating to me. I guess the artsy comes out in me because when I create something I get this great accomplished feeling. LIS 620 I created a LIibGuide on Grant Funding. This was a very fun project that was similar to creating a web site and when I started to create it I realized that there were so many organizations that provide grants for libraries, students, and the general population. It was then I had to determine which ones to use on the LibGuide that would be beneficial for a general audience. It was really getting overwhelming so I did the process of elimination. I then added a few other different grant funding opportunities that were not just for libraries. There is also crowdfunding that public schools use for their classrooms. Another newer source is crowdsourcing which libraries have started using with much success. The technology available for libraries to utilize is beyond words. There are so many different ways to provide information to users that I never knew existed. With each class I am more amazed at the technology I am learning and will continue to learn for libraries. LIS 636 I created a website on literacy and storytime uncg.edu/~dmjohns9 This website is for teachers, caretakers, parents, children’s librarians and whomever needs resources, books or facts on storytime and children literacy. Children literacy is one area of concern that will continue to motivate me to advocate for. The numbers speak for themselves when shown how many people still do not know how to read. Shown here, I also created a pictograph on libraries and literacy with some facts. |
